Orville Peck - 2024 - 06

Who is that masked cowboy? If you are asking that, then you obviously are not familiar with Orville Peck. Peck is known equally for his trademark masks and his catchy country songs. Currently on his Stampede Tour, Orville Peck brought his show to Michigan's Meadow Brook Amphitheatre.

When you attend an Orville Peck concert, there are a few rules that he wants you to be aware of. First, you have to sing along even if you don't know the words. Or, especially if you don't know the words. He says that it makes it really fun for everyone in the band. Second, if you are able you have to stand and dance, no matter how you dance, just dance and have fun. Finally, if you feel like crying, you have to let yourself cry. The crowd definitely followed the directions as there was a lot of singing, dancing and tears. If you follow the rules, and generally show that you are having a good time at the show, you might jst get rewarded. Throughout the show, Orville Peck would pause between songs and give roses to people in the audience he could see were having a good time. On this night, he must have give out close to a dozen roses.

It was exciting to see Orville Peck return to touring for 2024. After canceling his tour last year to focus on his mental and physical health, he states that it was a break that needed to happen, and he now feels that he is in a much better place.

The 90 minute set covered songs from his entire collection of E.P.'s and studio albums and you would be hard pressed to find anyone who wasn't satisfied with the 20 song selection. In a night full of cheers, the largest came when he played "Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other" and "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting"

The sound at Meadow Brook was awesome and Orville sounded fantastic live. The lighting was also on point. I've been to multiple shows lately were the singer was washed out in overplayed red lights, so I was extremely happy to be able to see hme clearly no matter where he moved on stage.

Overall, do yourself a favour, if you are a fan of Orville Peck go see this tour. Orville puts on a fun show which should be experienced live.
